The Costello Cup is is played for annually between Ennis and Woodstock golf clubs and the 2022 competition will take place in Ennis Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday March 26/27.

The format is Scotch foursomes (both players hit tee-shots, pick the best drive and play alternate shots until holed).

Last year’s competition resulted in victory for Woodstock who had just one point to spare over their neighbours. The tee-times available in Ennis for the upcoming event are as follows: Saturday March 26 (7.30am-10:00am) and on Sunday March 27 (7.30am-12.50pm).

Meanwhile the Spring league got underway at Woodstock last weekend when the competition was a team scramble. The winners were Cathal Nagle, Noel Moloney, John Dempsey and Eugene Killeen with 45.9 nett from Kevin Toner, Seosamh O’Riordan, Matthew O’Brien and Tom O’Donoghue with 44 nett. In third place with 41.9 nett were Jason Dormer, Paul, Declan and Tony Coote.

The league continues this weekend when the format will be fourball betterball and participants in the league are reminded that participants cannot play along side a pairing from their own league team.

The club scramble was won by Niall Reynolds, Hugh McGrath, Gerry Hayes and Michael Lynch with 44.2. This week the competition for non league participants will be a club fourball.

The club seniors had a 15 hole scramble on Tuesday when the winners were Pat Barry, Eugene Morrisroe and Sean Howard with 46 points.

Kilrush Golf Club:

Dominick Enright (16) was the winner of the weekly Spring league singles at Kilrush last week with 28 points.

He had one to spare over Andrew Egan (12) with third spot filled by Sean Lyons (11) who also returned 27 points.

Shannon Golf Club:

Winner of the 15 hole singles at Shannon last week was Stephen Bourke (17) with 35 points from Alan Small (10) with 34 points.

After two weeks of the Winter league the leaders on 149 points are E. Fanneran and J. Pearse, P.O’Rourke and A.Carr, P.Clancy and T.McNamara. This week’s winter league format will be singles.

North Munster schools qualifier:

Callum Hayes (Woodstock), Shaun Kenny, grandson of the late Donal Kenny, and Niall Melody won the North Munster junior schools qualifier in Ennis on Tuesday of this week. They will play the All Ireland final in Miltown golf club Dublin in April.
