Corofin’s determination was hailed by manager Douglas Hurley as they booked their place in the final of the Munster club intermediate football championship.

Trailing by three points early on in the second half, it didn’t deter the Clare IFC champions who sealed the deal with an excellent Diarmuid Cahill goal in additional time as they recorded a fully merited 1-14 0-11 win over Cork side Newmarket on Sunday.

Robin Mounsey was the top scorer for Corofin finishing the encounter with 0-05 to his name on a day when they outscored their opponents 1-09 0-04 from play.

Speaking following the semi-final win, Corofin manager Douglas Hurley outlined that their belief will always grow if they are still in with a fighting chance in the final quarter. “When we were with them going into the final quarter I knew we were in with a great chance because these guys were always going to die on their feet. These lads have great legs, great determination and if we are in a game in the last 10 or 15 minutes we have no fear.

“I think we left the shackles off a little bit today as we weren’t favourites but we had no fear coming here. A slog wouldn’t have suited us so the conditions were perfect. We weren’t perfect of course, our shot selection was poor at times, has been the issue all year but we are in the final now and we will prepare for that,” the partner director of DNG O’Sullivan Hurley added.
