The quarter-finals of the Galway Greyhound Stadium A3 525 Stake formed the spine of Saturday night’s card at the Collage Road venue. The opening quarter-final was an absolute thriller as the Johnny Burke of Tubber owned Sues Posh somehow managed to get up right on the line to collar Tromora Ange and Cree Sydney for a head and neck success in 29.53.

The winner met trouble at the opening bend as Cree Sydney led round out wide from Tromora Ange along the inner and by halfway they were five lengths clear of the remainder. At the third bend the front pair were locked in combat as Sues Posh was now finally in the clear and beginning to close albeit four lengths adrift. Off the home bend the leaders began to tie up as Sues Posh (Cable Bay-Millbank Posh) swooped down the inner to lead on the line.

An A7 graded sprint was the opening contest of the night. As the traps rose, the John Quinn of Gort owned Fast Fit Wilma was away smartly form her trap four berth and racing towards the opening bend she showed the way to Clonfeigh Sunset and Killanin Vic on her outside. Rounding the opening bend, the leader extended her advantage to one of over two lengths and staying on well up the straight the daughter of Doratos Wildcat and Fast Fit Maeve defeated Clonfeigh Sunset by three and three quarter lengths in 19.53.

In the early strides of race 2 on Fridays nights card in this S5 graded sprint contest Best Behaviour put her best foot forward on the wide outside to lead on the run towards the opening bend from Verstappen towards the inner and Killanin Knight. Rounding the opening bend the Aisling Murray of Sixmilebridge owned Verstappen slipped through to lead along the rails and on the crown of the home bend the leader and Best Behavior were clear. On the run home, the Stephen Murray trained Verstappen(Pat C Sabbath-Krystalise) drew clear to score by four lengths in 19.50.

At Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Thursday night last there was two Clare winners, Snuggie Rosie made it career win number three for Myles Cummins and Breda Casey form Newmarket-on-Fergus, a daughter of Paddys Magic and Miles Girl, Rosie kept the Snuggie Kennels recent good form intact when landing the spoils in 29.89. The finale of the evening, The Slan Abhaile A1 went to Clonlara’s Tom Fitzgerald with his consistent performer Ocean Hugo, a son of Laughil Blake and Ocean Olive, Hugo made it career win number 8 in fine style with his 28.93 effort.

In the second semi-final of the Liffey Mills A5 525 Stake at the Limerick on last Saturday night. Gower Jet bounced back from opening round defeat to record a twelfth career victory for Anna Carey of Cooraclare. Now in his sixth year, Gower Jet has been a terrific servant for connections and in his latest outing saw the 4/1 shot record his first win since August of last year. Gower Jet stormed up the inside between the bottom two bends and the son of Droopys Jet and Cloon Glory went on to record a length and a half victory over his rival. The time was 29.41.

Three semi-finals of the Ryan’s Timber Machinist & uPVC Suppliers A4 Tri-Distance also took place. In the third semi-final, the reserve Dynamic Diva. Jointly owned by Kieran and Bridget Nugent, of Ballyea, Dynamic Diva could only manage fifth in the opening round but she clearly appreciated the extra yardage on this occasion in racing to a third career victory. From a level break, Dynamic Diva showed the better of the early gears to swoop the opening bend and go clear of her rivals. The time for the 5/2 shot was 30.37.

There was also a two-bend contest on the card and this was won in emphatic fashion by the Stephen Murray of Sixmilebridge trained Give It Up. Owned by The-Three-Pointer-Syndicate, Give It Up was on the ball early on as he pinged the lids from trap six to take a comfortable lead into the opening corner. Tracking expertly thereafter, the son of Azza Azza Azza and Demon Chase, a 3/1 chance, showed no signs of taking his foot off the gas as he romped to an eight length victory over Mohane Madison in second. The time was a rapid 18.81.
