TRUCKS and lorries are ‘flying into the air’ by Henchy’s Cross due to a “bad dip” in the road, a county councillor has cautioned.
Drivers of lorries, heavy goods vehicles and tractors have noticed that “a bad dip has developed” on the R352 on the Ennis side of Henchy’s Cross, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) flagged. He asked for this to be rectified by Clare County Council and was supported in this call by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG).
Works to the Ennis side of Henchy’s Cross are not included in this year’s programme of works, senior executive engineer in the Killaloe Municipal District, Niamh Maddden confirmed. She stated, “The Killaloe Municipal District will assess the area in question with a view to potentially considering it for a future roadworks programme”.
“From the Clooney side heading towards Henchy’s Cross, there is a fine dip and a jump in it,” Cllr O’Callaghan explained. He continued, “I first noticed it a few weeks ago, there wasn’t any speeding involved but a truck flew high into the air when he hit it, there is a fine dip developing on it”.
He felt it was unfortunate the road was not included on this year’s programme. “It is a heavy thoroughfare from Ennis to Scariff with a lot of HGVs, lorries and tractors using it. It would be good to see it examined and see if something could be done”.
