THE way is clear for the semi-finals of the Clare senior camogie championship and the games will go ahead on Saturday and Sunday week (October 6/7th).

Unbeaten Inagh/Kilnamona who had already qualified before the final round of group games last week will take on their neighbours Kilmaley while the other semi-final will be a repeat of last year’s cracking final with title holders Truagh/Clonlara facing Scariff/Ogonnelloe.

Feakle/Killanena lost out on a place in the knockout stages following a draw between Inagh/Kilnamona and Scariff/Ogonnelloe.

Title holders in control

AN indication of Truagh/Clonlara’s determination to hold onto the McMahon cup for another season was evident in their big win over Clarecastle/Ballyea.

They were well on their way to their latest victory when they led 4-11 to 0-6 at the interval, the goals having come from Leah Hawes, Eimear Kelly, Aine O’Loughlin and Becky Foley.

Newmarket-on-Fergus 1-13
Venue: Éire Óg GAA Grounds, Ennis

A strong second half showing from Kilmaley against Newmarket-on-Fergus has secured their qualification for the semi-finals.
Newmarket-on-Fergus led 1-8 to 1-6 at the break Kilmaley’s goal coming from Caoimhe Cahill just before the short whistle. It proved to be a vital score as it gave the eventual winners a huge boost.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Claire McMahon struck for the team’s second goal and Chloe Neylon’s goal ten minutes from the end played a key part in sending the side through to a semi-final date with their neighbours Inagh/Kilnamona.

This was essentially a knock out tie for a semi-final place. Newmarket-on-Fergus now go on to compete in the Senior B along with Feakle/Killanena, Kilkishen and Clarecastle/Ballyea.

Spoils shared at Clareabbey

Scariff/Ogonnelloe 2-8
Inagh/Kilnamona 0-14
Venue: Clareabbey

A share of the spoils was a fair outcome when Scariff/Ogonnelloe and Inagh/Kilnamona clashed in this senior camogie tie at Clareabbey at the weekend.

If champions Truagh/Clonlara are to be dethroned, the belief amongst camogie fans is that Scariff/Ogonnelloe or Inagh/Kilnamona are most likely to be the ones to strip them of the title.

There was little between the sides at the weekend in what was a hard-fought physical battle. Inagh/Kilnamona were two points in front at the break when the score was 0-10 to 1-5 but their second goal, which came from Lynda Daly, brought them right back into contention and it was tit for tat right to the final whistle.

Scariff/Ogonnelloe; Rachel Daly; Robyn McKenna, Bonnie Wiley-Murphy, Aine Rodgers; Tara Murnane, Rachel Minogue, Susan Daly; Abby Walsh (0-1), Labhaoise O’Donnell; Jennifer Daly (0-2), Lynda Daly (1-5), Danielle Beston (0-2); Lorraine Grady, Alva Rodgers, Caoimhe McNulty (1-0)

Sub: Joanna Grady for C McNulty

Inagh/Kilnamona: Cara McInerney; Aine Longe, Cliodhna Queally, Hannah Shannon (0-1); Cathy Cullinan, Laoibhse Ryan, Jane Fitzgerald; Sinead Power (0-2), Laura Rynne (0-3); Clare Hehir (0-4), Aoibhinn Ryan (0-2), Kate Dowling; Danielle Griffin (0-1), Fiona Lafferty (0-1), Mary McInerney

Subs: Amy Shannon for A. Longe; Teresa O’Keeffe for J Fitzgerald; Alisha Rynne for M. McInerney; Clare Commane for A. Rynne; Helen Hehir for F Lafferty.

Heartbreak for Feakle/Killanena despite big win

Feakle-Killanena 7-22
Kilkishen 2-6
Venue: Scariff

Despite recording a big win and running up a huge score in the process, Feakle/Killanena’s involvement in this season’s Clare senior camogie championship is over.

The draw between Scariff/Ogonnelloe and Inagh/Kilnamona means that Feakle/Killanena have been pipped for a semi-final place.

They were well on the way to this win at half time when they led 5-9 to 1-3. Lorna McNamara top scored for the winners with 3-7 while Zi Yan Spillane chipped in with 2-4.

Feakle/Killanena; Roisin Quilligan; Eileen Daly, Maeve Brady, Aine Daly; Rachel McNamara, Ella MacNamara, Sophie Conway; Claire McNamara (0-2), Zi Yan Spillane (2-4); Bronagh Brady (0-1), Roisin McMahon (0-4), Vera Loughnane (0-1); Robyn Conway (1-1), Lorna McNamara (3-7), Shauna Conway (1-2);
