Footpaths in a Kilkishen housing estate described as being in “poor condition” are to undergo improvement works in the “coming weeks”.

“Trip hazards are inevitable” with the current state of footpaths in the Hillcrest Grove estate in Kilkishen, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) stated as he proposed that upgrades be carried out.

A contractor has been appointed in recent weeks to complete footpath upgrades in the estate, senior executive engineer with the Killaloe Municipal District, Niamh Madden commented. “It is anticipated that the works will commence within the coming weeks,” she said.

Works have previously tried to fix the situation, Cllr O’Callaghan recalled. “It is a mature estate at this stage, the footpaths are in poor condition,” the Kilmurry representative outlined. Footpaths are narrow on either side, he added while detailing that houses were left with little room.

His proposal was seconded by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) with the Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe MD praising the local authority for improving footpaths at other “older estates” across East Clare.
