Three Independent candidates have joined the local election race with the deadline for candidates to register having now passed.

Kilrush’s Noreen Lynch has added her name to the ballot paper in the Kilrush local electoral area with Joe Floyd from Tulla doing likewise in the Killaloe Municipal District. André Hakizimana who contested the 2016 General Election and was eliminated on the first count has thrown his name into the mix in the Ennis Municipal District.

Prior to the trio, Joseph Woulfe who rose to prominence courtesy of the Beef Plan Group announced his intentions to run as an Independent in the Kilrush local electoral area.

It now means there are 51 candidates declared across Co Clare for the local elections on May 24th. Those nominated so far may still withdraw with the lineup to be finalised after Tuesday.
