THEY PICKED UP THE SCRIPT and tossed it into the bin, Clare’s senior hurlers were written off in most parts for Saturday’s crunch tie with Limerick but they managed to end the All-Ireland champions seventeen game unbeaten run.
Regular viewers and listeners of The Water Break, our podcast will recall that the closing moments of our last hurling edition ended on an optimistic note that the character and spirit within the Clare dressing room would see them bounce back.
Needing a win following a below par showing in the first round against Tipperary, Brian Lohan’s Clare produced a rousing display to record a 1-24 2-20 win over Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.
An outpouring of emotion accompanied the result at the final whistle with supporters storming onto the field as if silverware was to be dished out, instead it was just the Banner laying down a marker that their Munster bid was firmly back on track.
Joining us on the latest episode of The Water Break to pour back over the win is 2013 All-Ireland winner and Clare Echo columnist, Darach Honan and 1999 All-Ireland club winner with St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield Patsy Fahey, a man who has also coaching and managerial experience with Gort, Corofin and the Clare senior camogie side.
