EAST CLARE was the focus of our third election debate on The Electoral Chair where we joined by candidates in the Killaloe Municipal District.

In advance of the local elections on June 7th, The Clare Echo is hosting election debates for our political podcast, The Electoral Chair.

Within the Killaloe Municipal District, there are five councillors to be elected. All sitting councillors are seeking re-election and a total of nine candidates had declared at the time of recording.

Bidding to be elected in East Clare are, Cllr Pat Burke (FG), Martina Cleary (SF), Cllr Joe Cooney (FG), Audrey Flynn (GP), Cllr Pat Hayes (FF), Fiona Levie (SD), Matt Moroney (II), Cllr Tony O’Brien (FF) and Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF).

Work commitments were cited by Flynn and Moroney for their absence from the debate while there was no acknowledgement from Cleary following attempts by The Clare Echo to contact her via phone, text and email.

Each candidate was afforded the opportunity to give a sixty second introduction and a final pitch to encourage people to vote for them on June 7th.

On the agenda:

  • Value for money as councillors
  • Challenging candidates aren’t serious
  • Female representation in East Clare
  • Hoovering votes
  • County Development Plan influence
  • Broadford delays
  • Planning
  • Emigration
  • Farming
  • Shannon Heritage sites
  • Inis Cealtra
  • Ballycar flooding
  • Crusheen rail stop
