FINE GAEL’s scramble to find a second General Election candidate in Clare continues as the field begins to firm up across the county.

While an official General Election date has not been set, the campaign is well and truly underway in Co Clare and to really up the excitement, The Electoral Chair, The Clare Echo’s political podcast has returned.

The Electoral Chair was recorded at Hotel Woodstock.

Joining us on The Electoral Chair we have Eugene Drennan, campaign manager of former Clare TD James Breen (IND) for his poll-topping 2002 GE, Michael Harty’s (IND) memorable campaign in 2016 under the ‘No Doctor No Village’ slogan and Wexford TD Verona Murphy’s (IND) success in 2020 and we have Geraldine Gregan (FG), Director of Elections for Fine Gael in Co Clare.

Confirmed GE24 candidates so far:
Leonora Carey (FG)
Cathal Crowe (FF)
June Dillon (AON)
Timmy Dooley (FF)
Roisin Garvey (GP)
Amanda Major (IND)
Donna McGettigan (SF)
Rita McInerney (FF)
Matthew Moroney (IND)
Eddie Punch (II)
Hilary Tonge (SD)
Violet-Anne Wynne (IND)

On the clár:

  • Why the delay in setting an official election date?
  • What is the logic behind saying ‘full-term’
  • Fine Gael’s setback in not getting Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) on the ballot
  • Lack of planning for FG coming home to roost
  • Fianna Fáil’s three person ticket
  • Can Violet-Anne Wynne (IND) come close to her 8,987 first preferences of 2020
  • LE24 a worrying precursor for Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF)
  • Big issues in Clare for GE24
  • Approaching a campaign in Clare for GE24
