OUR second election debate on The Electoral Chair put the spotlight on the Ennistymon local electoral area.

In advance of the local elections on June 7th, The Clare Echo is hosting election debates for our political podcast, The Electoral Chair.

Four county councillors will be elected in the Ennistymon local electoral area. All sitting councillors are seeking re-election and there are currently a total of seven male candidates on the ballot paper.

Vying for election in North Clare are Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG), Cllr Liam Grant (GP), Cllr Joe Killeen (FF), Conor O’Sullivan (SF), Bill Slattery (FG), Cllr Shane Talty (FF) and Denis Vaughan (LAB).

All candidates that will appear on the ballot paper with the exception of Sinn Féin’s O’Sullivan were present for the debate. Health reasons were cited by Conor for his inability to attend.

Each candidate was afforded the opportunity to give a sixty second introduction and a final pitch to encourage people to vote for them on June 7th.

On the agenda:

  • Introductions
  • Poster controversy
  • Housing
  • Uisce Éireann
  • Wastewater

  • Influence of county councillors
  • Clare County Development Plan
