A daily Aer Lingus service from Shannon Airport to London Heathrow is to commence next month.

On Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Aer Lingus confirmed to The Clare Echo that the route was commence next month.

“Due to the closure of the runway at Cork Airport, a daily Aer Lingus service from Shannon to London Heathrow will commence on 13th September, and it is intended to operate for the duration of the period of the closure of the runway at Cork Airport,” the spokesperson outlined.

Aircraft and crew operating the service will be based in Dublin.

EI385 will depart London Heathrow at 14:45 and arrive in Shannon at 16:10 on Monday through Friday and Sunday. EI385 will depart London Heathrow at 14:20 and arrive in Shannon at 15:45 on Saturdays while EI386 will depart Shannon at 17:00 and arrive in London Heathrow at 18:25 every day.

Speaking at the end of July, Aer Lingus chief executive Lynne Embleton said the airline has “good intent” regarding rebuilding growth in Ireland. She said Aer Lingus wants to return to growth in Dublin and restore connectivity including long-haul from the regional airports.

In May, Aer Lingus announced that it would no longer maintain its base at Shannon, where 83 cabin crew are employed.
