SHANNON AIRPORT is to host a meeting between Taoiseach Micheál Martin (FF) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this lunchtime (Thursday).

This brief bilateral meeting is to take place as Zelensky stops for fuel en route to Washington where he will meet with US President Donald Trump to finalise a deal on US access to Ukraine’s mineral wealth.

A scheduled visit to Belfast was cancelled by the Taoiseach to allow him travel to Shannon. Ireland’s support for Ukraine is likely to be emphasised by Martin during the engagement.

Ironically fellow political leaders, Mary Lou McDonald (SF) and Tánaiste Simon Harris (FG) were due to be in Co Clare on Thursday and Friday but they cancelled their respective visits.
