A do not swim notice has been issued for Ballyalla Lake with Monday’s thunder storms causing an increase in bacteria at the location on the outskirts of Ennis.
Elevated bacterial levels have been recorded at the location which has seen an increase in visitors during public health restrictions in the midst of COVID-19.
Clare County Council has placed a temporary prohibition on swimming at the location on the advice of the HSE. “The situation is being monitored regularly,” a spokeswoman for the local authority confirmed.
When bacterial levels recede to acceptable levels, the ban will be removed. “The elevated bacterial levels are as result of the extreme thunder showers which took place on Monday evening last,” the spokeswoman outlined.
