FEAKLE MOVED closer to a place in the quarter finals of the TUS senior hurling championship when they defeated Clarecastle at Shannon on Saturday afternoon.

Following on from their first round victory over Éire Óg, the East Clare side proved to be the more evenly balanced side in this tie.

The winners opened a four point gap in the opening quarter at the end of which they were 0-6 to 0-2 in front and while Clarecastle kept in touch they were unable to get back on terms.

The game’s only goal came midway through the second half when Oisin O’Connor pounced at a time when Clarecastle had closed the gap to two points It proved to be a killer blow and send the Feakle men on their way to a merited win.

As expected, the respective freetakers top the scoring lists with Shane McGrath contributing 0-10 for the winners, six of which came from play.

Clarecastle’s Oisin Casey contributed a dozen of his side’s scores, eleven of which came from placed balls.

It was 0-10 to 0-8 at the halfway point in Feakle’s favour. The sides exchanged points three times in the third quarter before Oisin O’Connor’s goal put the winners in a strong position.

Con Smyth, Adam Hogan, Shane McGrath, Martin Daly and Oisin O’Connor did well for the winners while Gearoid Ryan, Cian Galvin Eoghan Wallace and Oisin Casey did well for the Magpies.
