CO CLARE has been placed under a Status Red weather warning which is to come into effect from 10pm on Friday night.
Met Éireann have placed Co Clare under a Status Red weather warning from 10pm on Friday night until 2am on Saturday morning with “extremely strong and gusty northwest winds” forecasted during Storm Darragh.
Fallen trees, damage to power lines, dangerous travelling conditions, structural damage to temporary structures and wave overtopping have all been forecast.
Very strong and gusty northwest winds are set to hit Munster and Connacht from 8pm while the warning is in effect for Leinster and counties Cavan and Monaghan from 10pm.
Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have also been issued with the Status Red warning. The remainder of the country has been placed under a Status Orange wind warning.
A Status Red weather warning is issued for rare and very dangerous weather conditions from intense meteorological phenomena. The public are advised to take action to protect themselves and their property during such warnings and to follow instructions and advice given by the authorities under all circumstances and be prepared for exceptional measures.
