A “small group of people” have been dominating meetings of Clare County Board delegates, the former Vice Chairman of Clare GAA has said.

Speaking at the start of Friday’s board meeting, Cooraclare’s PJ McGuane said “I hope that this meeting will be more productive than meetings up to now have been. It behoves all to forget about promoting ourselves. Meetings up to now have been dominated by a small group of people. We don’t need four or five people representing one club”.

McGuane who lost out to Cratloe’s Jack Chaplin in the vote to become Clare GAA Chairman last year informed the meeting later on that the decision to disband Bord na nÓg was made by Croke Park “who decided that they would become sub committees of the county board subject to appointment by the county chair”.

Currently Chairman of the sub-committee dealing with underage football, PJ stated, “there is no appetite to return to what was and things are operating well at the moment as nothing happens without the imprimatur of the county committee. There is a concern that some clubs do their own thing. The hurling and football committees endeavour to work together”.
