Henry Shefflin has been chosen ahead of Davy Fitzgerald to become the new manager of the Galway senior hurlers.

On Tuesday afternoon, the All-Ireland winning Clare boss was on course to become the new boss of the Tribesmen but the ground shifted in less than twenty four hours with eleven time All-Star and ten time All-Ireland winner Henry Shefflin announced as Shane O’Neill’s successor ending a seven week search to fill the vacancy.

Louis Mulqueen, Michael Browne, Mike Deegan and Fergal Lynch were set to be part of Fitzgerald’s management.

Confirmation of Shefflin’s Galway ticket is to be announced in due course with Galway GAA set to officially confirm their new manager on Wednesday evening. It is anticipated that he will get a three year term.
