Fifteen year old Ellie Pyke this month won her category in a worldwide CrossFit competition.

From Shannon, Ellie along with Northern Ireland’s Zoe Kerr both came first in their respective groupings in ‘The Comp’ which welcomed participants from Iceland, Norway and the Netherlands to Palma, Mallorca at the beginning of this month.

Participants were invited to enter in the 14-15, 16-17 and 18-21 categories. From each qualifier, ten people progressed to the final. Ellie led in her qualifier and would maintain her advantage when it came to the final as she secured the gold medal.

Sport is in her blood, Ellie’s mother trains with her every day and her father was a professional golfer.

She is currently ranked number one in Ireland for her age-group and twenty first in the world. The St Caimins Community School student is affiliated with CrossFit Ennis.
