TWO SEPARATE FLIGHTS have diverted to Shannon Airport today (Tuesday).

Within the space of under two hours, two separate flights were forced to divert to Shannon Airport on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for Shannon Group confirmed to The Clare Echo.

At 12:24 today an American Airlines aircraft, flight AA209, routing from Dublin to Chicago O’Hare International airport, landed safely at Shannon Airport, having declared a medical emergency. The Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner jet was met by Shannon’s Airport Police Fire Service and a passenger from the flight was transferred to University Hospital Limerick. The aircraft departed shortly after 3pm today.

An Austrian Airlines aircraft also diverted to Shannon Airport today, due to a technical issue. The flight, OS93, was en route from Vienna International Airport to Dulles International Airport, Washington, when it diverted and landed safety in Shannon at 2.10 pm. The Boeing 767-300(ER) jet is expected to resume its journey later today.
