REPAIRS to the footpath on Kilmurry Rd in Sixmilebridge are to be carried out after damage was caused from the roots of trees in the vicinity.
An appeal for repairs to be initiated was issued by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) before a sitting of the Shannon Municipal District. The footpath is adjacent to the Mill Court housing estate in Sixmilebridge.
Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett confirmed that funding had been provided to introduce a pedestrian crossing along the road referenced. “The scope of the original works has been expanded to cover the footpath from Fredericks Square to the Broadford Road junction. If further repairs are required, these will be added to our annual footpath repairs contract”.
Residents in the area flagged the matter with the Cratloe councillor. “I went to look at what problem was, as it turned out, some roots of trees and bushes were pushing up the footpath which is causing the issue between Broadford Cross and Mill Court”.
According to Cllr John Crowe (FG), “the roots are coming completely across the path”. He continued, “They had a seat for people that would be on the walks, a lot of people in Sixmilebridge are using the area walks, we are fortunate that it is well lit and to a good standard but they had to move the seat because of the roots”. Support for the proposal was also voiced by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).
