A submission for a roadside barrier at Kilnamona has been made to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) by the Ennis Municipal District.

Engagement between “relevant transport and road infrastructure” and Clare County Council was requested by Cllr Mark Nestor (FF) at a meeting of the Ennis MD. He aspired that the discussions would lead to the installation of a roadside barrier structure on a stretch of road in Ballyknock, Kilnamona.

Senior executive engineer, Eamon O’Dea confirmed that a request has been made for the provision of a roadside barrier at the location.

“This requires a detailed design as the Shallee River bank is part of the road margin. The speed limit on this section of the N85 is 80kph and the dangerous bend road signs have 65kph advisory speed limits,” O’Dea added.

Cllr Nestor admitted to being “very happy” with the Council’s response to the matter. “It is a very serious issue. Frank Cullinan brought me out to see the residents there. A number of cars have had to be taken out of that section of road”. Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) seconded the proposal.
