ROAD USERS IN CLARE have been warned to exercise “extreme caution”.
Widespread black ice is present on the road network across the county with drivers urged to be on alert on Saturday morning and across the day.
Clare County Council’s winter maintenance team are treating priority routes where safe to do so. “The ongoing rain showers are affecting the treatment,” a spokesperson for the local authority told The Clare Echo.
It may not be evident that there are icy conditions due to the rain and as there may be no frost on cars, however this is deceptive and extreme caution should be exercised.
Routes described as “particularly hazardous” presently include the N67 Ennistymon/Lisdoonvarna/Corkscrew Hill and the Lisdoonvarna to Kilfenora road.
