Redemptorist appeal for Ukraine

Students and teachers from St Paul’s Primary School, FCJ Colaiste, FCJ Secondary School and St Clement’s College attended the 10am Mass in the Redemptorists on March 16th and presented cheques for the Redemptorist Appeal for Ukraine to Fr Seamus Enright. The four schools had organized fundraising events for the Appeal for Ukraine.

Fr Seamus thanked them for their generosity and assured them that all the funds would go to help the victims of the war in Ukraine. He told them how the Redemptorist Community in Ivano-Frankivsk had turned their kindergarten into a home for orphans. They are now looking after 40 children from two different orphanages. One group of orphans spent four days travelling from Kharkiv. Funds for the care of the orphans has come from the Irish Redemptorist Appeal for Ukraine. The retreat house at the monastery is being used to house refugees and the monastery bakery is working round the clock baking bread for the children, the refugees and the local people. Funds from the Redemptorist Appeal for Ukraine have been used to purchase a generator for the monastery. This is needed as the Russian army is destroying the infrastructure of Ukraine and there is no longer a regular supply of electricity. The generator was purchased in Belfast and is being trucked to Ukraine via Slovakia with the help of the aid agency, Gorta. The generator cost €15,000.
