In this week’s column, Rebecca O’Neill looks at about affordable makeup which are nearly exact replicas of the high end brands.
I will be providing a list of dupes for Mac, Nars etc. Sometimes you really don’t need to spend the big bucks to get flawless and effortless makeup. All you need are the right products for you that compliment your complexion. I use some of these affordable products on my own makeup clients and I always swear by them. These products can be purchased in your local pharmacy.
1: Foundation: Maybelline Superstay 24h foundation
The coverage of this foundation is amazing. I would always recommend this for nightwear or if you love a full coverage foundation that filters the face. A lot of people have said this foundation is very like the Fendi foundation with very similar coverage and texture. A little goes a long way with this product and can last you a long time depending on how much you want to wear it. This retails from €14.99.
2: Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me concealer
This concealer has a lovely creamy texture and is very featherweight on the skin. I recommend purchasing a concealer that is slightly lighter than your current skin tone to brighten the inner areas of your face. This concealer brighten your under eyes and gives that fresh look. This product is almost identical to the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer. This can be bought for €8.99.
3: Face powder: L’Oréal Paris True Match powder
I find this powder gives you that airbrushed look. This pressed powder is so light on the skin and covers pores. I recommend patting your beauty blender into this powder and slowly pressing it under the eyes. This technique can really improve the placement of the powder and pushes it into the skin. This powder would be very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder products. I personally think it gives the exact same effect. This retails from €10.49.
4: Bronzer: Note Cosmetics Bronzing powder
As a makeup artist I absolutely love bronzer. It always give the face some definition and texture. You don’t need too much of this product to achieve a contoured look. Use circular motions with your bronzing brush to achieve that blend. This product is very similar to Mac Mineralised bronzer. This Note Cosmetics bronzer can be purchased for €15.95.
5: Matte Lipstick: Maybelline Superstay Matte liquid lipstick
I swear by this lipstick because it does not budge! If you want to go for a pop of colour on the lips, this product is perfect to ensure it doesn’t transfer anywhere. We can all relate to how annoying it is to have to reapply your lipstick. If you don’t like the feeling of the matte lips, you can always apply some lip gloss over the matte lipstick when it is dry. You could compare this product to Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kits and there would be a very small difference. Maybelline Superstay Matte Liquid Lipstick retails for €11.50.
I would usually purchase all of these products in my local Lloyds pharmacy in Skycourt Shannon Town Centre. I always advise clients to reach for the more affordable products before spending money on high end brands.
