INSTALLATION of a pedestrian crossing on the main street in Lahinch is to be considered by officials in Clare County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Presently there are two pedestrian crossings in Lahinch, one on the N67 in Church Street and the other on the R478 adjacent to Lahinch Golf Club.

At a meeting of the West Clare Municipal District, Cllr Liam Grant (GP) called on the local authority to “draw up designs for a pedestrian crossing on the main street in Lahinch and put them out for public consultation”.

Senior executive engineer in the roads and transportation department of the Council, Anne O’Sullivan said the feasibility of this pedestrian crossing would be investigated by the road design office and involve discussions with the TII.

Officials must provide updates on these conversations, Cllr Grant said. “I just hope someone will come back to me on this. I really don’t want these to be brushed aside, so just for someone in md office be able to get back to me, that would be great”.
