DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE is to be ordered for Clonlara while construction of a pedestrian walkway will be considered for the South-East Clare village.

An appeal for a direction sign for Clonlara at Connor’s Cross was issued by Cllr Michael Begley (IND) with senior executive engineer of the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett confirming that arrangements would be made for its installation.

Cllr Begley also asked that “appropriate funding” be sourced “to construct a pedestrian walkway along the R463 from Clonlara Cross (junction with R471) to Monaskeha (junction with L-7040)”. In response, Mellett outlined, “this project will be nominated for an Active Travel project”.

While welcoming the reply, Cllr Begley queried the timeframe involved in such a response. The nomination process can commence “rapidly”, Mellett advised but cautioned, “the delivery process is more prolonged, we’re talking well into next year”.

Both motions were seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND). “Active and Travel means it will happen fairly quick,” he remarked of the pedestrian walkway.
