Niall Cannon’s President’s prize attracted a big entry at Dromoland Castle golf club over the weekend when the winner was Brian Hickey with 61 points. He had two to spare over Tony Kelly with third spot filled by Tony Byrne, who also had 59 points.

They were followed by Bart O’Brien with 58 points, Christy Cusack with 57, Denis Minihane also with 57, Barry Walshe with 55, Fintan Lahiffe with 54 and Eric Flynn, also with 54.

The gross was won by Enda Heneghan with 38 points while other prize winners were Maria Nolan (past president) with 31 points, Tom O’Sullivan (20 + category) with 40 Matthew Cooney (front 9) with 23 points, John O’Grady (back 9) with 22 points, Cillian Moylan (junior) with 44 points, Adam Mungovan (student) with 54 points and Michael Quirke (guest) with 37 points.

The president’s prize to the ladies was played over 18 holes and was won by Martina McInerney with 40 points. She won on a countback from Sheila Kent who had a similar score. Deirdre Cooney was third with 38 points followed by Sandra Moylan, also with 38. Joan Ryan won the gross while the nines were won by Cora O’Toole with 20 points and Cathy Casey with 25. Siobhan Fitzpatrick had the longest drive while Siobhan and Leslie O’Flynn were nearest the pin.

The ladies 9 hole competition was wo by Colette Maguire from Sinead Burke Keogh. Anne McMahon won the ladies 18 hole stableford competition on Wednesday with 36 points from MIchelle McCarthy with 35 points.

The ladies 9 hole stableford competition on Wednesday was won by Mary O’Donnell O’Brien with 19 points from Mary Arthur with a similar score. The men’s midweek 9 hole competition was won by Eric Flynn with 22 points from Stephen Bergin with 20 and Paudie Dorgan with 19.

Ennis Golf Club:

The ladies July medal, an 18 hole stroke play competition, was played for at Ennis last week when the winner in the silver section was Ann A Gallery (11) with 73 nett and she had a stroke to spare over Mary T. McMahon (17).

In the bronze section the winner was Mary Nagle (23) with 73 nett with second spot filled by Carmel Verling (22) with 74 nett.

In the 9 hole stableford competition the overall winner was Mary McMahon (11) with 22 points and she was the only competitor in division 1. Division 2 was won by Bridie Keane (17) with 20 points while Eileen Holly (21) won division 3 with 22 points.

Last week’s ladies senior competition was won by Alice D’Arcy, Maeve O’Grady, Therese Lillis and Anne McMahon with 56.72 from Geraldine O’Mahony, Liz Kelly and Peig Cleary with 60.8.

The committee trophy, a golfer of the year competition, was played for at Ennis at the weekend when Joe Griffin (14) was the winner with 45 points.

He had three to spare over John A. Byrne (12) with third place going to Paul O’Leary (31) also with 42 points while Gerard O’Brien (12) was fourth with 41 points.

Alan Butler won the gross with 36 points while the category winners were Noel Whelan (6) with 35 points, Cormac O’Neill (17) with 40 points and Thomas Gallery (19) with 41 points.

In the men’s 3 T’s qualifier the winner was Patrick Garry (31) with 44 points. The Friday open singles was won by Vincent Derham (26) Dromoland Golf Club with 39 points from Tony T McInerney (16) with a similar score. The gross was won by David O’Malley (Black Bush Golf Club) with 39 points.

The Tuesday fourball was won by John Gavin and Michael Ball with 36 points from Pat Murphy and Ronnie Guinnane with 35 points with Brian Considine and Senan Ryan in third place with 34 points.

Lahinch Golf Club:

Members’ week at Lahinch gets underway on this Thursday with the Dr. Browne cup (men’s fourball) and Kilcreene Cup (ladies fourball).

On this Thursday evening, August 1, the following prize presentations will take place in the clubhouse commencing at 9pm.

In the ladies section the presentations for June medal (Deirdre McDermott); Challenge cup (Val Shannon); O’Loughlin cup (Margaret Cooney) and the Kilcreene cup will take place.

The presentations in the men’s section will be to the winners of the Phelps Vase (Garret Ward), June medal (Ronan Cooney), July medal (Joseph Molony Jnr), Frank O’Brien Cup (Davy O’Brien), Kilcoran House Cup (Frank Neville), Pretoria cup (Pat O’Dwyer), Golf Links Hotel Cup (Ger Maher), Coolbawn cup (Kiran Sarma), Greg Young Memorial trophy (John Morris), the mixed foursomes: Lakeside Cup (Tom and Mary Ann Sheils), Liscannor Cup (Michael and Elaine O’Kelly) and the Dr. Brown cup.

On this Friday, John McInerney’s captain’s prize gets underway with qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday. The top 27 nett stableford scores over the two days will qualify for the nine-hole playoff which will commence at 2.00pm on Sunday afternoon.

The Francis Garrahy Perpetual plate (captain’s prize to the senior men) takes place on the Castle course on Saturday (12.00pm – 3.00pm).

On Sunday evening, the Captain’s dinner takes place at 8.30pm in the clubhouse and tickets can be purchased from the golf shop The prize presentation will follow dinner

Kilrush Golf Club:

The Young trophy was played for at Kilrush at the weekend when Michael Honan (17) was the winner with 62.

He won by three from Brian Fitzgerald (8) with 65 with third place filled by Nevan Prendeville (10) with 65.

The gross was won by Jim Young Jnr (4) with 71 while the categories were won by Dominic Enright (12) with 66, Sean Nagle (14) with 66 and Tom G Smyth Snr (21) with 65.

The nines were won by John Stapleton (22) with 31 and Colm Fitzpatrick (17) with 31.5. In the Rush Cup, open mixed foursomes the winners were John McNeilis and Muriel Kiely with 67. They won by two from Anne Cooper and Michael J Hogan with Derek Garvey and Edel Crowley a shot further back on 70. In fourth spot with 71 were Nevan Prendeville and Ann Coen while the gross was won by Anne Gallagher and Tomas Prendeville with 85.

East Clare Golf Club:

Last week’s ladies 18 hole stroke medal 5 competition at East Clare saw Marie Donnellan (21) emerge as the overall winner with a nett 68.

The category winners were Noreen Skehan (23) with 71, Margaret Lynch (31) with 73, winning on a countback and Breda McCarthy (34).

The silver medal winner was Evelyn Skehan while Ann Harte won the bronze medal

In the Olive Fahy Memorial Day competition the overall winner was Stephen Moloney (9) with 40 points.

Michael Lee (20) won the men’s section with 40 points from Pat Duggan (20) with 39 and Donal O’Grady (13) with 37. Shane Fahy (8) won the gross.

Jenny Ryan (32) won the ladies section with 40 points from Evelyn Skehan (19) with 39 with third spot filled by Maureen Clune (37) also with 39. Beis Hayes won the gross.

Last week’s senior mens competition was won by Dominic Stuart, Brendan Moloney and Sean Jones from John Nihill, Paul Sturton, and Denis Corcoran with third spot filled by Kieran McNamara, Jonathan Walsh and Martin Kelly.

East Clare Juniors have qualified for the Munster finals of the Golf Ireland 6’s competition. The team was Aoife Mannion, Katie Punch, Sam Davern, Liam O Callaghan, Caiman Heffernan and Cormac Punch.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Noel O’Shea (27) with 43 points won last week’s open singles at Woodstock while Eoin Glynn (-2) Lahinch won the gross with 40 points.

The category winners were Kieran Cunnane (1) with 38 points, Paudie O’Connell (17) with 40 points and Eugene Fawl (19) with 40 points.

Spanish Point’s Tony Cleary (-1) won the senior scratch cup gross at the weekend with 70 while the nett section was won by Kieran Cunnane(2) from the host club.

Callum Hayes (5) won the junior scratch cup gross with 71 while Des McKenna (8) from Shannon won the nett section with 69.

In the intermediate scratch cup Cathal Nagle (9) won the gross with 76 while the nett winner was Eoin Collins (15) with 67.

In the minor up Colin Reidy (19) was the gross winner with 86 while Gary Heneghan 20) from Castlebar was the winner with 66.

The weekly open singles continues on Wednesdays and Thursdays while this weekend will see a huge turnout of members playing for captain’s Jarlath Fahy’s prize.

There will be a team of four reversed waltz three to score, two to score, one to score, repeated throughout the round and this is an open competition.

Gort Golf Club:

Friday’s open 18 hole singles was won by Jack Mulveen (26) Glenlo Abbey with 40 points while the gross was won by Joe Hopkins (9) Cregmore Park with 25 points.

The weekend competition was for the centenary medal, a singles stableford competition which was won by Joseph Caulfield (15) with 46 points.

The category winners were Sean Hanbury (10) with 37 points, John Commins (14) with 40 points and Nishio Naoto (20) with 39 points while the gross was won by Kris Finnegan (+1) with 36 points.

In the ladies section the winner of the open singles on Friday was Sinead O Connor (29) with 37 points from Rose Enright (19) from Ennis with a similar score. In third place was Rita Moore (16) from Ballinasloe with 36 points.

The Granard Cup qualifier last week was won by Shauna Burke and Hannah McInerney with 42 points.
