SAFER access to Kilmihil’s People Park needs to be enabled, elected representatives have stated.
Construction of a pedestrian crossing “to enable safe access” to Kilmihil’s People Park was requested by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) at a meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.
Senior executive engineer, Alan Kennelly explained that a controlled pedestrian crossing would need to be assessed by the road design section of Clare County Council where pedestrian desire lines, traffic volumes and speeds would be examined.
An alternative solution was put forward by Kennelly, “we could drop the kerbs and install tactile paving at the proposed crossing point. This would create a more informal courtesy crossing. Such a courtesy crossing could be installed in the short term. Should pedestrians continue to have difficulty crossing the road at this location a more formal controlled crossing could then be assessed”.
Users continue to have difficulty crossing the road, Cllr Lynch highlighted while he welcomed the alternative as “a good solution to try resolve it for the time being”.
Activity levels at Kilmihil People’s Park will continue to grow with St Pat’s AFC carrying out work to an astro-turf development, Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) commented.
