Podge Collins has confirmed he will be concentrating solely on gaelic football with the county this year.

In October, Podge departed Brian Lohan’s Clare senior hurling panel prior to the start of the 2020 inter-county championship.

Weeks later, he made his return to the county footballers as they maintained their Division 2 status in the Allianz National Football League but recorded a disappointing Munster championship as they were eliminated by Tipperary at the quarter-final stage.

Speaking at the weekend, the Cratloe man confirmed that football would be his sole focus at an inter-county level once again this year.

With the footballers, Podge was part of the panels that secured promotion from Division 4 and Division 3 while he was involved in 2016 when the side managed by his father Colm reached the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

“I’m in with the football panel this year so hopefully it goes well,” Collins confirmed to RTÉ Sport. “We’re training away by ourselves hard. Like every team in the country, the running, the gym programmes, the stretching, the bit of skills, the shooting and stuff like that. It is difficult doing it by yourself but everyone has to adapt to the current climate because hopefully we’ll be back in the fields shortly.”

Collins was one of Cratloe’s standout players in last year’s club championship with the two time Clare SFC winner to the fore in guiding the club to the decider where they came up short against Kilmurry Ibrickane 1-12 0-12.
