*Eugene Gilligan presents his President’s Prize to Pascal Looney at Lahinch Golf Club on Sunday. 

Eugene Gilligan’s President’s prize which was played over two contrasting but challenging days, weatherwise, recently was won by Pascal Looney (14) with 40 points. Pascal achieved a very rare feat as eleven years earlier (2010) he won Eugene’s Captain’s prize at Lahinch.

Evelyn Lyons and Marie O Connor represented Lahinch in the Munster Region Qualifiers of the Granard Cup at Castletroy yesterday returning a score of 41points to finish in second place. Evelyn and Marie have qualified for the All-Ireland finals which will be hosted by Balbriggan on October 1.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Lady captain Fiona Landy’s prize was played for at Woodstock at the weekend when Mary Sweeney (43) returned a score of 64 nett.

Eleanor Miniter (46) was second with 68 nett followed by Chaye Kelly (22) with 70 nett and Niamh O’Regan (13) with 73. Fran Feighery (23) won the past lady captain’s prize while the nines were won by Mags Nash (45) with 34 ad Eilis Neville (35) with 35.

Niamh O’Regan won the long drive at the third hole and Mags Nash was the winner at the fifth hole. Fran Feighery and Mary Sweeney won the nearest the pin prizes at the 6th and 11th holes respectively. The guests prize was won by Margaret Flanagan(22), Ennis with 31 points from Ann White (33), also from Ennis with the same score.

Last week’s open singles at Woodstock was won by Andrew McGloin (10) from Ennis with 44 points. He had two to spare over Sean O’Loughlin (20) with third spot filled by Tyrone Kearse (13) with 42 points. They were followed by Colm O’Callaghan (30) from Ennis with 40 points and Mike Liddy (21), also with 40 points,. The gross was won by Cathal O’Connor (2) with 37 points

President Matt Power’s prize will be played for on this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a timesheet in operation.

Ennis Golf Club:

In the NBCRI fourball fundraiser at Ennis the winners were Tom Fox (20) and Padraig Cusack (13) with 46 points. In second place with a similar s core were Tommy Stack (19) and Raymond Power (17).

Seamus Nugent (18) won the Friday open singles with 42 points from David Considine (11) with 41 points with Tim Scanlan (20) in third spot with 40 points. Andrew Whelan (4) won the gross with 34 points.

Senior captain Pat G McInerney’s prize was played for last week when Michael Sullivan (16) was the winner with 41 points from John Gavin (21) with 40 points. They were followed by Vincent Lambert (37) with 40 points, Cyril Lyons (18) with 39 points, Don Ryan (20) with 38 points, Gerard Harnett (15) with 38 points, Tommy Heath (26) with 38 points, Flan Lyons (11) with 37 points, Frank Sheedy (20) with 37 points, Gary Cunningham (13) with 37 points and Sean Ryan (29) with 37 points. Liam Pyne won the gross with 28 points.

In the 9 hole singles Mike Butler (8) won with 19 points from Richard Cahill (9) with 16 points.

The Tuesday fourball last week was won by Tommy Stack and Martin Coffey with 37 points from Flan Downes and PJ Hehir with 34 points. They were followed by Brian Kelly and T.J Scanlan with 33 points, Brian J. McCarthy and Gerry Daly with 32 points with fifth spot filled by Aaron Greene and Cian Guilfoyle with 31 points.

The club’s open classic will take place on September 11 and 12 when the format will be a team of 4 for ladies and men with two scores to count.

Last week’s senior ladies competition was won by Aideen Considine, Frances 0’Reilly and Eileen Holly with 53 points from Una Patten, Eileen Corry and Kathleen Pyne with 53.6. In third position with 54 points were Anne Kelly, Margaret Flanagan and Anne Kehoe.

The ladies 18 hole v par competition sponsored by CoCo restaurant was won by Bridie Hanrahan (20) with +4 from Helen Harnett (26) with +2. Ethna Murphy (33) was third with +1 followed by Una O’Reilly (35), also with +1. Sinead Hegarty (16) won the gross with -1.

The 9 hole stableford competition winner was Anne Casey (13) with 18 points from Joan Tassie (21) with 17 points, Mary Woulfe (14) with 17 points, Anna Glynn (15) with 16 points and Marian Irwin (21) with 16 points.

Brid Cunningham (230 won the 18 hole competition with 33 points from Ethna Murphy (32) with 31 points and Jean Molony (28) with 30 points.

Liz Kelly (21) won the 9 hole competition with 18 points from Anne Kelly (14) with 17 points and Patricia Kirwin (20) with 16 points.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The Bank of Ireland men’s open singles was the competition at Kilrish on Sunday when the winner was Pat Mulcahy (23) with 44 points from Malcolm McCarthy (12), also with 44 points with third spot filled by Thomas O’Donovan Charleville (9) with 42 points.

The category winners were Kevin Clancy (13) with 38 points, Fergal O’Connor (17) with 42 points and Finbar McMahon (22) with 40 points.

The winners of the captain’s team of three competition were Brendan, Shane and Damien with 91 points from Mary Bolton, Anne Brennan and Peggy Mulqueen with 85 points. In third spot with 84 points were Patrick Coleman, Fergal O’Connor, and Eoin Fitzgerald, also with 84 points while fourth place was filled by David Abbott, Darragh Bolton and Mark Shannon and they also returned 84 points.

The West Clare Cleaners ladies stroke competition was won by Anne Cooper (36) with 66 from Kathleen Haugh (35) with 67 with third spot filled by Mary Keating (33) with 69. The gross was won by Anne Gallagher with 81 while the 12 hole winner was Martina Fox.

Dromoland Golf Club:

The winner of the Friday open singles at Dromoland was Eoin Maxwell with 39 points from Ryan Keane with a similar score. Matthew Fahy was third with 38 points while Nicky Duggan won the gross with 35 points.

In the junior competition on August 24 the winners were Darragh McNamara with 39 points, Daniel Meehan with 35 points and Eabha Brennan with 35 points.

Eoghan Smith won the 9 hole competition for the week ending August 27 with 24 points and he also picked up second prize with 22 points while Cian Moloney was third with 21 points.

The men’s 18 hole stableford competition at the weekend was won by Denis Mulqueen with 42 points form Jim White with 41, John Casey with 40 and Conor Tierney with 40 while Kyle Neylon won the gross.

The ladies 18 hole player of the year competition was won by Ann Nix with 38 points from Ellie Cotgreave with 38 and Breige Scanlan with 35 while the g ross was won by Suzanne McConway with 20 points.

In the 9 hole competition Leslie O’Flynn won with 21 points from Mairead Toomey with a similar score.

Gort Golf Club:

Frank Higgins’ president’s prize was played for in Gort at the weekend and resulted in victory for Michael Whelan (19) with 63 points from Gerard Connors (14) with 62 points. Niall Higgins (12) was third with 61 points followed by Padraic Landers (18) with 60 points and John Commins (17) with 59 points.

Robert McDonagh (5) won the gross with 32 points while David Cummins (27) won the nett with 40 points. Niall Finnegan (13) with 37 points won the past president’s category, Noel Forde (22) won the seniors category with 36 while the student’s section was won by Eanna Melville (2) with 35 points.

In the ladies section Evelyn Fahey (34) was the winner with 57 points from Ellen Dolan (22) with 54 points and Josie Collins (19) with 56 points. Siobhan O’Connor (10) won the gross with 22 points while Anne Marie Cradock (37) won the nett with 38 points

Portumna Golf Club:

Captain Pat Quinlan’s prize was played for at Portumna at the weekend when the winner of the 27 hole stroke competition was Vincent Treacy (17) with 100.5 nett from Ronan O’Meara (17) with third spot filled by Adrzian Egan (11) followed by Damien McDermott (10) and Dan Hogan (23). Ger Lynch (5) won the gross with 110 from J. P. McLoughlin (+4) with 112.

Gene McEntee (23) won the seniors section with 109.5, Frank Ryan (16) won the past captain’s category with 105 while the leading qualifier was Willie Carty (15) with 68 nett.
