Ongoing flooding problems at โa very extensive dairy farmโ in Newmarket-on-Fergus have led to appeals for repairs and upgrades to the access road to it.
Clare County Council were called on by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) โto repair and upgrade the roadโ in Mooghaun, Newmarket-on-Fergus leading to the entrance of Paddy McCormackโs house and farm โdue to heavy flooding at various times in the yearโ. His proposal was seconded by Cllr John Crowe (FG).
An assessment will be completed to determine necessary measures, senior executive engineer Tom Mellett responded. โFollowing assessment, a determination will be made as to how to secure funding for works identifiedโ.
Cllr McMahon told a recent sitting of the Shannon Municipal District that it is an โongoing flooding problemโ during periods of heavy rain. He explained, โIt is a very extensive dairy farm of nearly 200 cows, a huge amount of cowsโ.
He said that the road is used a link to East Clare and by people travelling to and from both Quin and Newmarket-on-Fergus. McMahon felt the localised flooding outside McCormacks could be solved but acknowledged the railway flooding in the vicinity was a bigger issue.
