AN OFFER from the National Transport Authority (NTA) to fund a new bus stop in Kilrush has not materialised due to an inability to find “a suitable location”.

Bus and coach stops currently exist at a number of locations across Kilrush, Bus Éireann stop at The Square while smaller TFI buses use the two stops on Frances Street.

Senior executive engineer with the West Clare Municipal District, Alan Kennelly confirmed, “The NTA had offered to fund a bus stop in Kilrush last year, but a suitable location was not found”.

He noted that the development of the Kilrush masterplan was ongoing. “It may be that a bus stop location forms part of this masterplan”.

Place de Plouzané had been suggested by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) for the development of a bus and coach parking facility “to facilitate local link buses and coach tours, similar to the facility at glór”.

Kennelly acknowledged that Place de Plouzané was “an excellent location” due to the amount of space in the area and its proximity to the town centre. “It may be prudent though to wait for the final draft of the Kilrush masterplan before seeking funding from the NTA”.
