AURORA displays have been visible across Co Clare this Thursday night.

It is the second time this year that the Northern Lights have been spotted in Co Clare. Pink, green and red illuminations lit up the night sky across the Banner County and further afield in many regions of the country.

Ideal geomagnetic and weather conditions brought the lights into view. The UK Met Office reported that a “coronal mass ejection from the sun” was earth bound making sightings of the Aurora Borealis likely across northern areas of the UK.

When charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles, the Aurora Borealis is visible in the sky.
