REPAIRS to an O’Callaghans Mills housing estate will have to wait due to a lack of budgetary resources.

Flooding, road and footpath improvements to the Doonaille housing estate in O’Callaghans Mills were requested by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) at a recent sitting of the Killaloe Municipal District.

Senior executive engineer, Niamh Madden advised that the MD “does not have a budget presently to carry out works in this development”.

She committed to assessing the location to determine what remedial measures may need to be undertaken. “Thereafter, the municipal district will examine what funding options may be available to us and identify the most appropriate method of potentially funding any future works.

Cllr Cooney outlined that the housing estate was built in the 1970s with “very little upgrading work done in the estate since only bare maintenance work”. He was adamant that an upgrade to its footpaths and how it deals with flooding was required.

“Disrepair comes in after some years and the people living there push on in years, mobility does reduce,” Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) acknowledged as he seconded the proposal.
