A new modern optical practice has opened in the heart of Ennis providing professional and personalised eyecare.

Opening its doors on Thursday last, Horizon Optical, based in Merchant’s Square, will offer the most up-to-date styles in eyewear while providing the people of Clare with a personalised approach to customer service and high standards in eyecare. Proprietor and dispensing optician Rosaleen O’Sullivan is joined by registered optometrist and Lahinch native Ruth Nolan, along with frame stylist and optical advisor Tonia Moloney from Lissycasey.

With more than 20 years’ experience in the optical industry, Rosaleen told The Clare Echo that the first lockdown last year caused her to re-evaluate her future prospects and she was attracted to the idea of a fully independent optical business. “I wanted to start a new business where I could spend optimal time with a patient and deliver a personalised experience. It’s important to us at Horizon that customers get a more individual experience and when they contact us they speak to somebody very knowledgeable straight away, where you start getting a great service from the very beginning.”

The team at Horizon Optical have handpicked all their styles and will stock a wide range of frames including LK Bennett, Kate Spade, David Beckham, Hugo Boss, Oakley, Cocoa Mint, Woodys Barcelona, Eco Conscious to name a few. “The choice for the consumer is actually beyond what I ever imagined it would be. All of our frame suppliers regularly release new frame styles with the seasons of the fashion houses, so whether its Hugo Boss or Kate Spade, they release new styles all the time and that will be one of our unique selling points. We’ll refresh our styles and brands regularly so people are constantly getting new products to look at when they come into us. Keep an eye out for our new brands on Instagram and Facebook”

“We know the demand is there for eye tests with great customer care. We have our website launch next week and customers will be able to book their appointments online or they can phone us to book. We currently offer PRSI and private eye tests.” Horizon Optical are also in the process of securing HSE approval for medical card customers.

The Quin resident and her team are offering high grade eye exams with OCT scanning and Rosaleen says they plan on being very competitive with their pricing. “We will be running various promotions instore from opening, to include excellent value products at competitive prices. We also have a great kids range with frames from Nanovista and Polaroid Kids. We put huge emphasis on the precise dispensing of our product and we use local business LR Precision Ennis, to supply and glaze our lenses..” Using local suppliers is important to Rosaleen and so the team of three have spent many weeks finalising the design of their store alongside local tradesmen including Donal Considine and his team.

A business graduate and dispensing optician, Rosaleen has worked in the industry for more than 20 years and was most recently a partner in Specsavers Ennis until October 2020. The mother of three says she’s excited to welcome customers into her new premises at Merchant’s Square. “It is a bustling area, there is a Mediterranean feel with the cafés and outdoor dining in the area. All of the shop owners are very focussed on promoting local business in Ennis and have been very friendly and welcoming to us here at Horizon Optical.”

Horizon Optical is open Tuesday to Saturday. (9:30-5:30pm Tues-Thurs; 9:30-6pm Fri; and 9:30-5pm Sat). To make an appointment or to get in contact, call 065 68 22599.
