Tipperary may have knocked Clare out of the Munster hurling championship earlier this summer but a lucky National Lottery player from the Banner county has exacted some revenge on their county neighbours after they scooped a €500,000 scratch card prize on a ticket they purchased in the Premier county.
After officially claiming their €500,000 prize which they won on a €20 All Cash Extravaganza scratch card, the lucky Clare player told how they purchased their winning scratch card when they were passing through Tipperary at the Spar Shop and Save store at Portroe Cross in Nenagh.
The West of Ireland winner admitted that they did not realise just how much they had won immediately: “When I first scratched off the panels, I thought that I had won €5,000 which I was absolutely delighted with. And then I looked at it again and thought it was €50,000. It wasn’t until I looked at it for a third time shortly after that I realized it was €500,000 – I was in total shock and probably sat there looking at the scratch card in disbelief for about five minutes.”
The lucky winner is going to think carefully about what to do before making any big plans: “I won’t be rushing out to spend it just yet. I am going to take my time and plan what we should do – I never expected to win an amount like this so as you can imagine, I’m still taking the news in. It’s all quite surreal!”
The National Lottery has also confirmed that the winner of the €6,489,165 Lotto jackpot from Saturday 22nd May has also claimed their prize. The player who wishes to remain private purchased their ticket at the Applegreen service station in the Arcadia Retail Park in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
