Clare’s intermediate ladies footballers left it late to claim a win in their first encounter of the year.

Clare 0-12
Wexford 1-08
Venue: Cusack Park, Ennis

Fidelma Marrinan stepped up with the all-important kick on sixty two minutes to ensure Evan Talty’s tenure as manager begin on a winning note.

Other than Marrinan’s opening point, one minute into the contest and her final strike at the death, Clare trailed the visitors.

They lined out without the injured Niamh O’Dea and impressed during the second quarter particularly. Centre-forward Ciara McCarthy kicked six points over the hour, two of which came at the end of the first half when Clare popped three scores without reply to cut the deficit to a single point at the interval.

Centre-back Tara Kelly impressed throughout for the winners while the score-taking of Wexford’s Amy Wilson also proved to be a talking point.

On Sunday, Clare travel to Tralee where they will be eager to make it two wins from two games.
