Temporary relief from flooding has been provided in Aughboy, Clonlara following drainage works.

In an attempt to “prevent future storm water damage to the road and private property,” Cllr Michael Begley (IND) proposed that drainage works be completed on the L-7040 in Aughboy in Clonlara. The motion was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).

Senior executive engineer in the Shannon Municipal District, Aidan O’Rourke confirmed that an examination of the location was completed with tasks carried out “to make safe the location and to provide some temporary relief from flooding”.

O’Rourke continued, “Substantial works are required to fully solve this issue and will be considered for funding via the 2021 road drainage grant”.

“Totally unexpected and out of the blue damage was done to the road because of flooding,” Cllr Begley recalled. He was in agreement that “a major piece of work” must be completed.
