EXISTING gullies at the entrance to Ivy Hill and Fern Hill are “in good order and functioning correctly” despite requests from one county councillor to alleviate water ponding.

Senior executive engineer with the Ennis Municipal District, Eamon O’Dea detailed that existing gullies at the entrances to the Ennis housing estates “were checked recently and are in good order and functioning correctly”.

O’Dea explained, “the issue at this time of year is the leaves are flushed by the rainfall towards the gullies and causes an obstruction to the flow. Once the leaves are removed the local ponding area dissipates quickly”.

A proposal for the local authority to carry out works “to alleviate water ponding” was tabled by Cllr Mark Nestor (FF). “A number of residents contacted me recently about the water quality, it was quite bad. I welcome Eamon’s response, what you have said is fair enough, I would ask that an eye be kept on the estates”.

Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) informed fellow councillors and local authority officials that he had seen water ponding when walking this route along the Gort Rd.
