Lahinch reporter, Richard Chambers is to publish his first book later this year.
HarperCollins have acquired the rights to ‘A State of Emergency’ which will be the first book written by the broadcaster, it will be released in October.
A State of Emergency will reflect on the Ireland’s response to the pandemic and will include several interviews with frontline workers, health officials and members of Cabinet.
In March of this year, Richard was promoted to the role of News Correspondent with Virgin Media News, having joined the outlet in August 2018 from Newstalk where he worked as a reporter.
Of his upcoming publication, Chambers was hopeful it would serve as a “living history of the pandemic”.
He stated, “This past year has changed all of our lives. The opportunity to try to give people a new understanding of what happened in Ireland’s Coronavirus crisis is a very exciting one”. The book, Chambers explained will look “the tense meetings, the crucial decisions and the moments the State’s response came close to breaking point.”
Speaking with frontline staff across the country was a privilege, Richard said as he learned of their experiences as they “battled fatigue, PPE shortages and devastating surges to save as many lives as possible”.
