Despite the absence of Áine Donegan due to her involvement in the US Open, Lahinch ladies senior cup successfully defended their West Munster Area title at Castletroy Golf Club.

After great wins against the host club (3.5/1.5) and Tralee (4/1), Killarney were their opponents in the regional final and after a very tight and competitive match, Lahinch came out on top (3.5/1.5) to retain their title and qualify for the All-Ireland finals which will be held at Dun Laoghaire between September 7 and 10.

Valerie Hassett and Aedín McCarthy are team managers, their panel included Miriam Abernethy, Sarah Cunningham, Jenny Hennessy, Olivia Lucas, Niamh O’Dwyer, Chloe Ryan and Aideen Walsh.

After an excellent win over Castletroy (3.5/1.5) at Kilrush, the men’s senior cup team were defeated by the narrowest of margins in the West Munster quarter-final by Ballybunion (3/2) with the deciding match going to the fourth extra hole (22nd).

Woodstock Golf Club:

Lady captain Niamh O’Regan’s prize was played for at Woodstock at the weekend when Fran Feighery (26) emerged as the winner with 76 nett.

Deirdre Molyneaux (23) was one better with 75 nett but wasn’t eligible for the winner’s prize as she didn’t have the required number of outings played so she had to settle for second place. Margaret Ann Killeen (16) with 76 nett was third.

Chaye Kelly (13) with 79 nett won category 1 (11-25). The category 2 (26-36) winner was Patsy Nugent (30) with 77 nett while the category 3 (37 plus) winner was Louise Guilfoyle (36) with 78 nett.

Other prize winners were Mary Gleeson (past lady captain) with 82 nett
Mariann Hintz (concealed prize), Mary Howard (longest drive at the 2nd) and Chaye Kelly (longest drive at the 9th).

The lady captain’s prize to the men was won by Frank McEnery (22) with 61 from
Ronan O’Looney (14) with 65 with third spot filled by Jamie Ivors (18) with 70.

Mike Reen (4) won the gross with 78 while the category winners were Darren Russell (7) with 74, Oliver McNamara (16) with 70 and Gerry Walsh (24) with 71. The weekly open singles continues on this Thursday while there will be a club singles at the weekend.

Shannon Golf Club:

The Shannon ladies July medal was won by Brid Walsh (19) with 70 nett. She had a stroke to spare over Noeleen Neylon (12) with 71 nett with third spot filled by Pauline Nally (25) also with 71 nett. Rose Doyle (11) won the gross with 85 while the category winners were Suzanne McMahon (14) with 73 nett, Siobhan Fenton (29) with 72 nett and Helen O’Donnell (37) with 75 nett. Noeleen Neylon won the Two’s prize on the 17th hole.

East Clare Golf Club:

Last week’s ladies 18 hole stableford competition at East Clare was won by Breda McCarthy (38) with 34 points. She had one to spare over Noreen Skehan (23) while the gross was won by Noreen Doyle (19) with 15 points.

The winners of the Eileen Murphy qualifier competition were Brid Hayes and Helen Downey with 35 points.

The ladies Wednesday competition winners were Phil Burke, Maureen Clune and Mary Farrell from Noreen Skehan, Siobhan Tiernan and Mary Jo Minogue.

The men’s Thursday open was won by Jonathan Walsh with 36 points
The men’s July medal, a golfer of the year competition, was won by Adam O’Halloran (13) with 66 from Richard Hayes (14) with 68 with third spot filled by
Ger Hogan (14) with 68. The gross was won by Stephen Moloney with 71.

Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by Danny Minogue, Chris Davis and Michael Moloney from Kevin Grimes, Terry Coughlan and Brian Corry with third spot filled by Brian Corry, Brian Torpey and Kevin Grimes

The men’s open continues on Thursdays while the mixed scramble takes place on Friday evenings at 5.45 p.m.

Ennis Golf Club:

The ladies Old Ground Hotel sponsored 18 hole singles stableford competition during open week at Ennis was won by Lauren Fox (24) with 38 points from Yvonne Keohane (18) with 37 points with third spot filled by Flor Coffey (28), also with 37 points.

The overall winner in Wednesday’s ladies singles competition was Flor Coffey (28) with 37 points. Division 1 was won by Ann 0’Loughlin (17) with 36 points, division 2 by Helen Gallery (23) with 34 points and division 3 by Una 0’Reilly (35) with 34 points.

Sinead 0’Sullivan (26) with 20 points was the overall winner in the 9 hole stableford competition. Division 1 was won by Carmel Verling (10) with 15 points, division 2 by Mary Woulfe (15) with 17 points and division 3 by Therese Lillis (25) with 18 points

Dromoland Golf Club:

The competition at Dromoland at the weekend was singles stableford which was won by Cillian O’Connor with 48 points from Tony Cotgreave with 41 points with third spot filled by Dermot O’Neill with 40 points and he was followed by Shane O’Brien who had a similar score. Brian Shally won the gross with 36 points.

Gordon Daffy won the men’s 9 hole competition with 23 points, three more than Cathal Nolan with Stephen Casey, also with 20 points, in third spot.

In the ladies 18 hole stroke medal qualifier the winner was Mairead Bergin with 70 from Siobhan Dyar, also with 70. Mary Arthur was third with 74 while Leslie O’Flynn won the gross with 84.

Gort Golf Club:

Philip Dunne (24) won the Structive Civil Engineering sponsored men’s 18 hole singles at Gort at the weekend with 43 points.

Robert McDonagh (3) won category 1 with 43 points, John Moylan (15) won category 2 with 41 points and Shane Kavanagh (20) won category 3 with 41 points. The gross was won by Gerard Connors (8) with 30 points.

Joseph Nugent (34) won the 18 hole singles on Friday with 38 points.
