The ladies’ Winter league at Dromoland concluded recently with just a point separating the teams in second and third places.
As expected, Anne McMahon’s team sealed first place with a total of 253 points. The other members of the team were Michelle Bennett, Majella Cotgreave, Jo Linnane, Joan Ryan and Annette Shanahan.
Anne Fahy’s team jumped from fourth place at the end of week 7 into second, with a great team performance in week 8 and finished a single point ahead of their nearest rivals. Their total score was 239 and the team members were Siobhan Doohan, Siobhan Fitzpatrick, Maureen McKeogh, Mary O’Donnell O’Brien and Theresa Reddan.
Trish O’Brien’s team maintained their consistency into week 8 to take third place again with a single point to spare over their nearest rivals. Trish’s team was Mary Galvin, Miriam McCarthy, Suzanne McConway, Patricia Moroney and Breda O’Donovan.
Majella Cotsgreave won the first 9 hole singles stableford stand alone competition of 2024 with a score of 22 points. Mary Ann Sheils was second with 19 points with Dolores Fox in third place with 17 points.
Kilrush Golf Club:
The Johnson’s Bar Spring Series continued at Kilrush on St. Patrick’s Day when the winner was John Robinson (19) with 31 points. He had one to spare over Nevan Prendeville (7) with third place filled by David Abbott (10) with 28 points followed by Gavin Duffy (12) with a similar score. The gross was won by Tom Fox with 18 points.
East Clare Golf Club:
Saturday’s ladies team of three at East Clare was won by Eileen Donnellan, Noreen Doyle and Teresa Bradley.
Monday’s 9 hole ladies singles was won by Maria Kennedy from Noreen Skehan. Last Wednesday’s ladies competition was won by Maureen Clune, Noreen Doyle, Ursula Hogan and Noreen Skehan from Brid Hayes, Connie McKenna and Mary Jo Minogue with third spot filled by Mary Farrell, Margaret Lynch and Evelyn Skehan.
The winners of the senior men’s competition last week were Jackie McHugh, Danny Minogue and Willie Roche from Jim Willis, Kieran McNamara and Terry Coughlan with third spot filled by Batt Skehan, Noel Earley and John Fielding.
Ennis Golf Club:
Ennis ladies section hosted the Lions & Cubs competition in aid of the Laura Lynn Hospice for Children. The event which was very successful was won by Mary Woulfe, Claire Kennelly and Ann McMahon with 41 points.
Meanwhile work is continuing on restoring the greens which have been out of action for the past month ahead of what is expected to be another busy season at the club. In the mean time temporary greens are in operation.
Woodstock Golf Club:
Barry McNamara (12) was the winner of the 15 hole singles at Woodstock at the weekend with 32 points.
The modified fourball competition was won by Michael Guerin and David Quinn with 38 points. This weekend there will be a 15 hole singles and a team of two texas scramble.
Gort Golf Club:
Gort hosted an open 18 hole singles on Saturday and Sunday when Trevor Cummins (7) won category 1 with 41 points.
David McAllen (15) was the category 2 winner with 36 points, Barry O’Driscoll (21) won category 3 with 44 points while the category 4 winner was Pat Fogarty (28) with 38 points.
The Bank holiday Monday open singles was won by John O’Donnell (21) with 46 points while Colman Cooney (8) won the gross with 31 points.
