ORGANISATIONS LIKE Irish Water and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will have to be pulled “kicking and screaming” into the county to progress projects in North-West Clare.

That was the view put forward by Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District, Cllr Shane Talty (FF) as he sought an update from Clare County Council’s road design office “on progressing a plan for a traffic management solution at the square in Miltown Malbay”.

Senior executive engineer in the road design office, John Gannon confirmed, “Concept designs have been discussed with the TII and these will be progressed to design options for further discussion and review with the TII over the next number of months”.

Speaking on the matter, Cllr Talty welcomed the progression of design options but he remained skeptical. “It sounds like we’re right back at where we started. It might prompt the penny to drop in John Gannon’s head that Irish Water, TII and all these guys, unless somebody on our side is pulling them kicking and screaming into these projects, I don’t think there will be progress”. His motion was seconded by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND).
