Improvements are to be made to the public toilets at Fanore Beach in time for the 2021 high season.

An increase of the capacity of the water storage tank at the public toilets at the North Clare beach were sought by Cllr Shane Talty (FF) at a recent meeting of the West Clare Municipal District. “Increased demand this summer has shown that the current system is insufficient,” he commented.

Enda MacNamara in a written reply confirmed that works would be completed by Clare County Council to increase water storage capacity.

“Fanore was not capable of the crowds it was dealing with,” Cllr Talty commented. Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG) praised local authority officials for committing to improvements at Fanore and referenced the high rate of wild camping and staycations seen there over recent months.

Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) suggested that Council officials also make electrical improvements to the public toilets, “electric hand dryers would reduce the volume of paper being used”. He praised how the beach was monitored over the summer months.

ESB are to be consulted regarding costings for adding electricity to the toilets at Fanore and Council officials are hopeful this will be in place for the next tourism season.
