Clare Cascaders basketball club made history by winning the double in the North Munster Basketball League on Sunday last.

A week previous, they won the league final against Panthers BC winning 59-49 on the day. Cascaders squared up to a very strong experienced Phoenix side on Sunday last and knew from previous battles they would have to be at their best.

The Ennistymon boys were very slow to settle into the game and were trailing 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. Like tripping a switch, the Cascaders put on a tenacious full court press Ciaran Harrington up top and Michael Leigh stealing the ball and driving the basket with authority. One point separated both teams at the break 31-32, at this stage Cascaders big boys Mattie Kinch, Ultan MacDonald, Sam Linnane and Mikey Rouine were controlling the boards at both ends of the court.

Phoenix were not going to give up and some superb outside shooting from Gordon O Brien kept the pressure on Cascaders. With great support present cheering on the Clare team the speed and skill on the fast break showed by James Leigh, Cillian Devitt, Caelan O Neill and Conor Dillon Cascaders ran out winners 69-45.
