HANDRAILS are to be installed at Tullyvarraga Hall to improve safety at the Shannon community outlet.

Senior executive engineer in the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett confirmed that a contractor has been approached “to commission handrails” at Tullyvarraga Hall.

It follows a proposal from Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) who urged the Shannon MD office to examine the steps on either side of the Hall “with the view of finding funding to make these steps safer. In particular, the smaller set of steps as these become mossy and slippery. The provision of a handrail would be great to making these steps a lot easier and safer to use”.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the Shannon MD, she emphasised that the presence of moss is making the smaller steps very slippy on occasions. Her proposal was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).
