Morning Focus presenter, Gavin Grace is to leave Clare FM.

Loughrea native, Grace has fronted the flagship show on Clare FM since 2015 taking over the reigns from John Cooke who has now gone on to report for RTÉ Radio One.

The Clare Echo understands that Gavin will leave the media industry having handed recently handed in his notice. It brings to an end his eleven years with the radio station. He joined Clare FM in January 2010 after just under two years working with Spin South West.

Prior to becoming Head of News and the presenter of Morning Focus, the Mary Immaculate College graduate was a reporter with the Francis St based media outlet and also presented The Today Show which was produced by Máire Moynihan. His interest in radio stemmed from starting as a volunteer with Wired FM in Limerick, the college community radio station.

In a 2018 interview with The Clare Champion, Gavin admitted that he had never applied for a job with a national radio station and that he had no intention of doing so. Current Clare Champion journalist Fiona McGarry served as producer for most of his time in the hotseat, Ennis’ Ben Sweeney also held the role while Kilfinane native Rebecca O’Sullivan is the current producer.

On Wednesday, Clare FM began advertising to find Gavin’s successor as Morning Focus presenter.

Two members of Clare FM’s sales staff are to also leave their respective positions in the coming weeks, The Clare Echo has learned.
