A THREE DAY SWIMMING BAN has been implemented at Kilkee.

Issued on Sunday evening, the HSE recommended a do not swim bathing prohibition for Kilkee beach.

This recommendation is to be in place for three days while the water is being tested.

According to a spokesperson for Clare County Council the notice is as a result of “a malfunction at the Irish Water waste water pumping station in Kilkee”.

Mountshannon and Ballycuggeran have also been under a do not swim notice in recent days. The presence of algae bloom prompted the HSE to issue the advisory for the East Clare amenities. The public are advised not to swim and should also be informed that domestics animals and pets should also be excluded from these areas.
