“Serious flooding” occurred on a road servicing Shannon Industrial Estate over the Christmas period according to Cllr PJ Ryan.

The Independent councillor highlighted the issue at the January meeting of the Shannon Municipal District. Cllr Ryan put forward a motion which asked the MD to carry out drainage and repair works to prevent flooding “on the Ballymurtagh Old Concrete Rd servicing the Shannon East Industrial Estate”.

“It is intended that improvement to the drainage and surfacing of this road will be included in the 2019 roadworks programme subject to receipt of funding”, executive engineer, Aidan O’Rourke outlined.

Cllr Ryan added, “there was a serious amount of flooding here before and after Christmas. The road is in place since the foundation of the Airport, the drainage is very poor”.

He was seconded by fellow Independent, Cllr Gerry Flynn. “It is a very busy area that is being used more and more by the day”.
